Crisis & Counseling Centers (C&C) is looking for a Public & Media Relations Intern to join our Communications & Development team to help increase our earned media.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Monitoring local and national press and writing a weekly summary of C&C and industry related news highlights.
  • Connecting with C&C staff to generate story ideas and promote them externally.
  • Drafting press pitches and press materials for on-air interviews, feature articles, and Opinion pieces.
  • Developing press packets and bios for C&C leadership.
  • Conducting research in response to department needs or media inquiries.
  • Assisting with special guests and facilitating special events.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a strong record of academic achievement and independent, analytic thinking.
  • Excel in communication, both oral and written.
  • Seeks opportunities to go above and beyond.
  • Continuously demonstrate a willingness to learn.
  • Have the ability to identify patterns, trends, and discrepancies in data.
  • Have a basic understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel applications.
  • Self-manage deadlines, assignments, and daily work routines.
  • Collaborate well with others.

Previous experience, whether personal or professional, in the behavioral health or substance use treatment fields, as well as spending time with individuals in various stages of recovery is a plus. The candidate should be compassionate, patient, sensitive, and mindful of the vulnerability of the population with serve and the stigma that often surrounds the services we provide.

Our internship opportunities are somewhat flexible. All interns are expected to work at least 10 hours per week, and to be available a minimum of 4 months. This work can be conducted remotely or at our headquarters located in Augusta, Maine. We work with clients of all ages with a variety of mental health and substance use issues. Those who are working toward or have recently completed a degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing, political science, business, psychology or a related field are strongly encouraged to apply.

Please keep in mind that this position is unpaid and we are looking for interns who want to gain more experience and/or need college credits.
