The Crisis Responder is a mental health emergency responder, who provides support and intervention to adults and children experiencing a crisis event. They connect clients to resources and conduct risk assessments to determine appropriate level of care needed moving forward. Workers are trained to provide risk-assessment and intervention for clients in locations including, but not limited to, the client’s home, correctional facilities, school and other community services sites.
The ideal candidate would:
- Provide telephone and mobile crisis intervention at any location in the service area.
- Follow guidelines to provide assessment and gather information to determine a recommendation that would best meet the clients’ needs.
- Effectively communicate and build rapport with clients.
- Maintain clear boundaries with clients.
- Have a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and clean driving record.
- The following vaccinations are required for this position: MMR, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Hepatitis B, Influenza, & Tetanus.
Education/Experience requirements:

Eligible candidates must have a minimum of 30 hours of relevant course work, a MHRT CSP, OR a minimum of an Associate’s degree. Those who possess a MHRT/C may qualify for a MHRT/CSP.
- Upon hire, candidates will receive training to be a crisis service provider. Training will consist of an 8-12 week paid training period with a combination of class time and job shadowing/hands-on experience.
- Experience working in behavioral health is preferred but not required.
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
Hours:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Crisis is a 24/7 service, therefore flexibility for weekend and holiday work is required.
Location:
This position will be based out of our main office, which is located in Augusta, ME. Travel within Kennebec and Somerset counties is required.
Pay rate:
Pay starts at $19/hour, but with the addition of shift differentials can be up to $22/hour.
